Bidyut (BK) Bose learned Yoga from his father since he was a child, and later with monks in the Himalayas. He has been teaching serious students and training teachers for 35 years, leading retreats and immersions and guiding students who wish to develop, sustain, and deepen their personal transformative practice. A teacher’s teacher, BK’s classes are an exercise in mindfulness, facilitating deep introspection while gently building flexibility, endurance, balance, and strength. A certified Yoga Therapist, he also researches the scientific application of the principles of Yoga Therapeutics for many common chronic conditions, including back pain, asthma, arthritis, hypertension, chronic fatigue, RSI, osteoporosis, etc. BK is the Executive Director of Niroga Institute, a Center for Integral Health.

Niroga is bringing yoga to those that need it most – at-risk youth who are homeless, abused, exploited, delinquent, or incarcerated, giving them the life skills needed to realize the power and possibilities within themselves. We also bring yoga to seniors, cancer patients, and people in rehab and recovery. A plethora of strong partnerships have been developed, allowing us to serve hundreds of people a week. Check out an 8-minute video highlighting our work with delinquent youth in Oakland. We also recently started a year-long program at Alameda County Juvenile Hall, bringing Yoga, Breathwork, and Meditation daily to incarcerated youth in their Mental Health Unit. We have developed psychometric tools to measure changes in general health, stress (and anxiety and depression) and self-awareness (and self-control and self-esteem) with regular practice.
