Niroga Yoga - Core Principles and Practices of Health and Well Being

An eight-week workshop with Bidyut (BK) Bose and Tamara Perkins

Extensive research has demonstrated that the healing benefits of Yoga include the physical (increased strength, endurance, flexibility, and balance), and the psychological (reduced anxiety, stress, anger management), extending to the spiritual (greater equanimity and self-confidence, and heightened self-awareness), allowing us to realize and manifest our full potential in thought and action.

This workshop series will explore Yoga, Breathwork, and Meditation as techniques for living authentically and mindfully in the present, applying this ancient wisdom tradition to our lives here and now. Each class will follow the canonical sequence of Raja Yoga - Yoga poses and breathwork, followed by introspection and meditation. Each session will close with a progressive discussion on core philosophical texts: the Bhagavad Gita, the Upanshads, and the Yoga Sutras. This class is appropriate for all students who wish to develop, sustain, and deepen their personal Yoga practice.

Bidyut (BK) Bose learned Yoga since he was a child, first with his father, and then with monks in the Himalayas. He has been teaching serious students and training teachers for 35 years. He is also a certified Yoga Therapist, researching the scientific application of Yoga Therapeutics for many common chronic conditions. BK is Executive Director of Niroga Institute (www.niroga.org), a Center for Integral Health, fostering health and well-being through Yoga for at-risk and underserved individuals and families, by outreach, education, and research.

Tamara Perkins is one of BK’s senior students, having studied with him for years. Tamara has had a deep interest in cultural and religious studies, with an affinity for Eastern philosophy and practice, since she was a child. Exposed to Yoga and Tibetan Buddhism by her step-father, she has made Yoga, meditation, and Buddhist principals an integral part of her life. She is the Executive Producer of the acclaimed DVD, Raja Yoga – A Guide for Personal Practice, and is Program Director of Niroga Institute.

NirogaTM Instutute is a non-profit center for integral health founded by Bidyut, and is dedicated to providing affordable, high-quality Yoga instruction and Yoga therapy to individuals and families who have been underserved, e.g. children with special needs, at-risk youth, and the elderly. All proceeds from this program will go to NirogaTM Institute.
