Sheila Castle Rivera, Regional Program Director, Southern US
First introduced to yoga in middle school, Sheila became committed to her practice while working in a Head Start early childhood education program in San Antonio. While completing her yoga teacher training in 2017 she felt called to share the stress- and anxiety-relieving benefits of yoga with youth in underserved communities. Shortly thereafter Sheila joined Niroga as one of its first Houston-based Dynamic Mindfulness instructors, working with middle school students in Kashmere Gardens and South Union. She has had the privilege of learning from the students and teachers she serves, while also leveraging her background in grant writing and program development to help grow and sustain Niroga’s operations. Sheila received her BA in Urban Studies from Trinity University and her MPA from the University of Houston. She lives in Houston with her husband and young daughter.
