Research Shows Dynamic Mindfulness Improves Academics & Social Emotional Learning

Independent researchers from the Prevention Research Center recently studied our Dynamic Mindfulness program. They analyzed data from over 1,000 students in three urban middle and elementary schools. The researchers found impressive improvements in academics, as well as social-emotional learning. This included improved reading and math scores, increased empathy and school engagement, and reduced hyperactivity and bullying.

The intervention involved just 15 minutes of Dynamic Mindfulness (DM) practice. DM integrates mindful movement, breath regulation and focused attention. The practice is conducted in-class at least three times per week.

Classroom teachers conducted the Dynamic Mindfulness sessions. They received our DM training and coaching. Also, they were able to use our comprehensive DM curriculum. This is a guide that contains 48 scripted lesson plans. Each lesson plan is for use in-class, in 1-on-1 and group sessions by counselors, and by PE teachers and administrators.

These compelling findings build on four earlier independent studies on our program. Notably, a Randomized Controlled Trial - the gold standard in this kind of research.  Additionally, there have been many research publications on our DM program in peer-reviewed journals. Our work has also been featured in research presentations at national and international conferences.  

The research on DM has passed the stringent research criteria for evidence-based practices set by the national Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning (CASEL). Our CASEL approved curriculum is listed in their resource guide. We are now pleased to announce that WW Norton is publishing our curriculum. The complete curriculum is slated for release in Fall 2016.
